Hey, That's a good idea! It's always nice, in my opinion, to see how other people do
things around their house. I get inspired when I can take an idea of someone else's that I love and make it my own
or basically implement it in my own way. Today's post is exactly that. This is
something I saw on *Happily A Housewife on YouTube and I was inspired to make my own.
Here is a space for the kids lunch boxes and all materials needed to pack lunch:
Quick overview of the shelf. The lunch boxes
actually face handle out, but my kids' names were
on those, so I turned them around.
Left side is where we keep small containers. We
usually pack fruit or other small things like Gold
Fish or Cheez-its Cracker.
Blue bins with handles are from Dollar Tree. On the
right, we keep extra lunch boxes and brown paper bags
for field trips. The container in front of the extra
lunch boxes is a salad shaker container.
The blue bins in the back of the cabinet are a great way to organize the sandwich containers, thermoses, napkins and eating utensils. Some things aren't pictured because they are currently in the dishwasher. The boys used them today.
I thought it was a great idea to have a cabinet dedicated to packing lunch and only have that function. My cabinet has two shelves, but only the top shelf of the cabinet is used as the "lunch cabinet." My cabinet is down low so that the kids can reach it. I try to organize it frequently, so that it stays neat and everything can be found easily. The kids rarely go in the cabinet; however, my oldest empties the dishwasher every morning, so he puts the dishes away. Like most 9 year olds, he doesn't take the time to make sure he puts things away very neatly. I go behind him to keep things in order and organized.

In the morning, I make their lunches
(sometimes my 9 year old makes his lunch). All I have to do is grab the
lunchboxes from the cabinet, grab a container and get to packing! I like the
idea, because I know that all of the lunch packing materials are in one place
and there is no need in rummaging through the kitchen looking for materials at
7:30 AM!
Do you have a space totally dedicated to packing lunch? A cabinet? A shelf?
What have you seen on YouTube, read on
blogs or seen from a friend or on TV that made you say, "Hey, that's a good idea!?"

ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
DeleteGreat post! We need to use this in our house...containers are everywhere. Really like how you let your kiddos share in the responsibility of packing lunch & take care of the dishes. Awesome! (Coming over from Small Victories Sunday Linkup)
ReplyDeleteYes, it has saved our mornings! Thank you, I'm trying to teach them responsibility!
